Carbon Black ASTM Grade N220 is an intermediate super abrasion furnace (ISAF) black that offers high tensile strength, superior tear resistance, and excellent wear resistance in rubber compounds. Featuring a fine particle size and high surface area, it provides about 10% to 20% higher abrasion resistance compared to standard N330 grade carbon black. It is primarily utilized in passenger and commercial vehicle tire treads, heavy-duty conveyor belts, and high-strength industrial rubber goods.
Carbon Black ASTM Grade N220 belongs to the N200 series of furnace blacks characterized by fine particle diameter (~20–25 nm) and high specific surface area. Under ASTM D1765 classification, the "N" indicates a normal curing rate, while the "2" signifies its particle size group.
Because of its high reinforcement capability, N220 significantly enhances the mechanical durability, hardness, and road-traction behavior of vulcanized rubber compounds.
High Reinforcement & Tensile Strength: Delivers exceptional mechanical strength and chip-and-cut resistance to rubber matrices.
Superior Abrasion Resistance: Outperforms general-purpose furnace grades like N330 and N550 in wear resistance under heavy friction.
Electrical Conductivity: Possesses moderate electrical conductivity, aiding electrostatic dissipation in rubber products.
Processing Behavior: Generates higher heat during dynamic stress and increases compound viscosity/hardness compared to coarser grades.
